by Mexico Bariatrics
Gastric Plication, in Mexico Bariatrics, is a new laparoscopic procedure available for weight loss. Our surgeons reduce the volume of the stomach by about 60 to 70% by sewing large folds in your stomach, essentially folding it in on itself, to reduce the size of the stomach. There is no cutting, stapling, or removal of the stomach or intestines with the Gastric Plication. A gastric band may also be placed over the Gastric Plication, further limiting the amount of food that can be consumed at one time.
The Gastric Plication procedure is minimally invasive and takes approximately one hour to complete. Most patients stay in the hospital for one day after the procedure. The advantages of Gastric Plication include a safety profile similar to traditional gastric banding and it is thought that the procedure may be reversed or converted to another procedure if needed. The Gastric Plication may potentially be a good option for patients who aren’t good candidates for other weight loss procedures due to their medical or surgical history.
While gastric plication surgery is still in the investigational stage, most researchers studying the procedure report positive short-term results that are comparable to the more well-established procedures.

Gastric Plication Benefits
Depending on their pre-operative weight, patients can expect to lose between 40% to 70% of their excess body weight in the first year after surgery.
Many obesity-related comorbidities improve or resolve after bariatric surgery. Diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and abnormal cholesterol levels are improved in more than 75% of patients undergoing a bariatric procedure.
Though long-term studies are not yet available, the weight loss that occurs after Gastric Plication results in significant improvement in these medical conditions in the first year after surgery.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
